Carpentry Works Part 1

Finally, i can sit down to type my blog on carpentry works.

Was multi-tasking when i reach home, check emails, working on ROM stuff.. hmm dont know what i am busy with.. :P Super long blog so take time to read.. :P

Tuesday 28th Nov 2006 was really a great experience day with Soma.

I spent the whole day at my place watching the carpenters at work with Soma.

He know i was not very please on the minor matters that PC (Project Cooridnator) forgotten about. <_< and he had to step in for the day. Maybe i could explain abit on this part that wondering why Soma dont comes into the picture at times. Usually for OC they works in team group as they dont just handle one project alone. Soma is overall in charge of my project but PC will be the one running the show with the contractors and cooridnation works. The kitchen stainless steel pipe had leakage for more then 3 weeks, and constant reminder to PC but the contractor never go down to fix it. Most of the time PC is ok, just some stuff i had to keep reminding him yet it never been solved until i got tired and complain straight to Soma on it. Soma sense my unhappiness, so he took charge and got the things done! That is the mini hiccups along the way for my reno.. I believe we got to be realistic on the expectations.. Well, soma told me in the morning that the curtain guy would be there 12pm and i was still at home at 11am.. I had to rush down to meet the curtain guy in my place, felt very bad to keep him waiting. Most of the selection was done by the curtain salesman (www.shop8.com.sg) , Frankie and we gave him our budget and he managed to meet it. Hope what he gives will be good.. I can only keep my finger cross. Hmm he gave me a bold colour for my balcony curtains.. I hope it turns out good. He told me since your house is really bold colours, i give u bold curtains.. hahaha i cant stop laughing. Quite experience guy :) After that i was watching the carpentry works

Today, soma called me up to let me know the house had been chemical washed.. and also since the tc officer had promised that the external wall will be done up, so went to check it out.. had to drag roy down to see our clean up place..

Soma also gave me a big surprise today.. he found one photographer for me for my ROM~! :jawdrop: i was really shocked and lost for words.. i know i had been talking to him about the lacking of help for ROM but i didnt know he had asked his friend to help me out.. i am so touched until really lost for words.. even up to now i also dont believe it.. thank you soma.. i am really touched by ur kind gesture to help me out on this.. *tears drip*

It really had make me feel blessed to have a friend and ID, my house is almost ready and i really never regret finding Soma as my ID n bonus thing is he become a good buddy to us now..

I went into the house and on the lights.. i can only jawdrop and admire the place.. let the pictures do the talking..

Lights & Grilles Installations

Well, Daniel gave me a surprise call on wednesday that they went to install some lights up. I was shocked since Soma told me saturday then electrican Ah Lin will be free to install my place. Thanks Daniel & Soma! :) Nice surprise

For these two weeks, there is nothing much we can do beside TC settling the water seepage problem (finally, Tip: make big noise or else they will never work on it), <_< Here are some of the lights installed and window grilles. No window grilles shown as i didnt take pictures of half done.. :P

Lights Delivery on 13th Nov 2006

Not much of pictures as it was quite dark and i got scared of my own shadows and there was a pop sound after i left the study room after inspection of the damaged area study room. (i am timid mouse!)

More pictures will come after Saturday as Soma scheduled electrican to come and fix them on saturday.

We are no rush to move in and carpentry works will start only 27th Nov so nothing much for me to update.

Most likely 27th Nov i will go down and check things out..

Water Seepage Problem

Well, Last Saturday - 11th Nov 2006 was a bad time for our house. The heavy downpour caused big problems to my study room. :( Super sad

the water seepage problem caused damages to my study room.

This was on 18th Sept 06 when we went to open house with Soma



Complain to HDB until now also no action taken from Town Council.

Delay until now caused damages to my floor as shown in the pictures.










My mom complained until they really scared of her liao.. THANK YOU MOMMY! She is the BEST! :bow: I love you mom! She went all the way to the TC head of department to complain and now the TC officer who is in charge cant say to wait anymore and they will work on it this week. FINALLY!

I will meet the TC n HDB officer on thursday and see how to claim the damages, i am not expecting much but see how things goes.. sigh hope things will be better for us soon.

Thanks for all the support from friends and family and Soma.

Soma says not to worry so much on the damages and get the TC to work on the problem and later he will work on the damaged flooring. thanks Soma for his support. He is such a great pal..

Laminated Flooring + Paint Works 2

Friday is really a cartoon day for Odie. I took half day to settle some stuff and went over to my house to check on the progress. I was there for awhile and someone came knocking at my door. Those pple who have the pink paper(WIS) asking me whether they can see the place. I say no problem and let them in. Maybe new neighbours in the future? :P Anyway, they didnt dare to say much except the place is much bigger then the showroom. They thank me and left.

I was just walking around looking at my place. Feeling the sense of home. Since July 06 until now, we decided to get a house and managed to get our family blessing to get this house. Its a long road, knowing Soma and his team to get what we have today, its really a blessing. Not forgetting our parents support during these tough time. Words cannot express my feelings how much all my friends and family support for this home of ours. I dont know how to express or just bad at express my feelings out. To Soma n OC and family n friends, thank you for all the love n support given to us for our humble home.

I wanted to write this later after carpentry works, but yesterday being there at my house, make me want to say this out on my blog. Of coz, its only half way and there is more to come, from the emptiness of a house to what it is today. I just stood there and let the memory past me through, it was not a short time or that long time. The process of getting the right ID to suit us to many nights of discussion on both parties with ID. I think ID life not that easy too. haha Especially with my fickle minded, can change from one decision to other, haha Soma dont have good time servicing us. hee hee :P He prove time to time he is really the idea ID for us.~ :good:

So far my experience with Soma, i think its the most fun time and alot of laughter and crazy poking fun of each other. Even roy just dont know what to do with both of us. I guess Soma is like a older brother i never had. :P gaga

Anyway, update most likely be slower since we are waiting for carpentry..

The golddust colour needs more coats.. its really not coming out with nice effect yet.. :(

On friday, from SK to balestier was something new route for me. As i dont really go to this area and i got lost.. yes i have no sense of direction... so i walked 1 hr from farrer park mrt to lavender street.. how do i get that? I have no idea.. i just walk n walk n walk. Even Soma was laughing at me and ask me to ask roy to pick me up while i have no idea where i am!! hahahahaha. Liao.. Managed to take a cab and we went to pay up the balance amount to light shop. The delivery of lights will be on monday. We end up getting a door bell from them too. We couldnt find a nice n cheap light for our cosy corner though. :(

Saturday - 11pm
I just back after chit chatting with Soma. The contractor couldnt make it due to the heavy rain and really busy time for him. So we just discuss on the carpentry works with Soma at his office and we went to find the light for that problematic cosy corner.. From one end of balestier to the other. From 3 plus to 6 or 7pm.. end up getting a display set light for 45 bucks.. the sales man throw in energy saving bulb and a normal bulb.. Retail price is 98 bucks. I think quite a good buy though its a display set. Until i can find something nicer next time and with more money, then we will go for it. hee hee After that we went to eat and sit down and chit chat until 10 plus.. hahaha. It was a pleasant time.

At least now the lights are settled and we can see some going to fix up either monday afternoon or tuesday. At least at night we can on some lights to see the effect. Will update when we head to our place again.

Only problem we worried is that the water seepage problem with the town council. Some more its rainning more heavily. Sigh.. Just pray things will be alright for us. :(

Paint Works~

Tuesday, I was excited to see my paint colours and my toilet accessories. Soma advise me not to go down as i will not able to see much of difference. But i just wanted to see how the progress is. Anyway Roy mentioned he is meeting up with his buddies for drinking session so poping down our house will be alright for him. He says his buddy wants to see the house also. So we met them there.

Due to the poor lighting, so cant see much of things yet roy buddies (husband n wife) were quite impress with the works. The only thing was the colours were abit bold for them also. :P They thought ID price tag is more expensive then what we are getting for. They cant wait to see the final effect of the house. thumbs up for Soma design~

I didnt really talk to them as i was walking around to inspect the stuff while roy was entertaining them.

Bedframe Change Due to Aircon Trunking

Sofa Set : Wanted the 3 seater (2 metres) but it will make the living really small..

So we finalize this set as show in my blog and the final colours.. hope the effect will turn out good.

I did mentioned the PC and contactors had forseen this problem due to HDB walls are not even..

old current house and new flats are the same... so dont expect perfect from HBD <_<



This is really something I never think of as i wanted a flat headboard for lesser cleaning area but due to circumstances, we have to change.

I believe they did their best to flush the area as much as possible. :thumbs up:

I did have another option is to use thinner aircon trunking and mom will not hear of it and i will not want to change a small area for a thinner trunking.. Since we decided to run that way, we just have to live with it.
I am glad it still looks ok, just more troublesome to go n change the bedframe and stuff. Soma always advise me to get furniture much later. Try to avoid less headache to have furniture to fit the problematic areas.


Tips : try to think of more farther steps to minimize any headache for ur place. Aircon trunking is always one big headache for alot of couple. Try not to buy furnitures too early. Less Headache in Reno. Sometimes hands itchy to buy but dont forget its important to able to match the colours n themes of the house
